The Messenger, 2007. Graphite On Paper.

The Messenger explores the cell phone as mediator. Truncated narratives, ambiguously ominous or poignant, read as condensed and exclusive. While passively displaying its message, the apparatus of mediation has a frustrated life; swollen with its own need for connectivity, it takes on characteristics of the burden of its charge.

Missed Connections, 2007.

In this performance piece I wrote “Missed Connections” (personal) ads about people attending an opening. My laptop screen was projected, displaying the ads as I typed them.

Vulnerability, 2007. Business Cards.

Vulnerability is a major them in my work. I really want to discuss this word with other people, so I make business cards and attempted to give them away downtown. There were of course a majority of people who avoided contact, those who were disinterested, but sympathetically took one, and other’s, intrigued by what the cards were for, who spoke with me. The cards acted as a conversation starter, and people told stories and gave their own personal definitions. One man quoted me a poem he had written about love and described love as the most vulnerable feeling, as you had to open yourself up to the possibility to be hurt in order to experience it.

One Cold Hand, 2007-2008

A site for the collection and hopeful reunion of Pittsburgh’s lost gloves.

onecoldhand.com is a project that connects the Pittsburgh community through one unfortunate event - the loss of a glove. This site creates a method for dealing with the conundrum of finding these lost articles. Do you leave it and hope the owner comes back to find it? Do you pick it up? Throw it away? With onecoldhand.com, the abandoned object now becomes a symbol of benevolence and hope.”
